Gov. Katie Hobbs talks to the media about wildfire prevention on March 27, 2023.

As the state looks back on one of the wettest winters on record, officials reminded Arizonans that wildfire season is right around the corner.

And although the rain and snow may give firefighters a short break, it also means more fuel on the ground, particularly in central and southern regions.

Gov. Katie Hobbs said in a press conference Monday that most wildfires are human caused.

“As you’ve already heard today and I will just emphasize again, most wildfires are caused by people, so it’s critical that we are all doing our part to prevent them," she said.

She urged people not to burn trash on windy days, to clear brush from around their homes and to put their campfires out.
