Voodoo Doughnut has more than 50 doughnuts to choose from, including numerous vegan options, the company said.

A Portland-based company known for its creative take on the humble doughnut is finally setting up shop in Arizona.

Voodoo Doughnut said Thursday the first location in the state will be in Tempe, near Arizona State University's main campus.

The shop — with more than 50 doughnuts that feature everything from cereal to bubble gum, bacon to chili peppers — is planned near Apache Boulevard and Rural Road. The company said the building will be pink with chandeliers and artwork by local artists.

“We’ve been exploring the Arizona market for a while as part of our continuous growth strategy, and we’re excited to finally bring our doughnuts to Tempe,” said Chris Schultz, CEO of Voodoo Doughnut, in a press release on Thursday.

Why Tempe? Why not Tempe, Schultz told KJZZ News.

“Tempe is the melting pot of Arizona with the university being right there and local community growth, we knew it was a place we wanted to be,” Schultz said in an email.

No opening date has been announced.

Voodoo Doughnut currently operates nearly 20 stores in six states.
