Planned Parenthood of Arizona is giving measured praise to the U.S. Supreme Court for issuing a temporary stay on a Texas judge’s ruling to ban an FDA-approved abortion drug.

Mifepristone received federal approval more than two decades ago. It’s one drug in a two-course treatment used in medical abortions.

Brittany Fonteno is with Planned Parenthood AZ.

“What we’ve seen now over these past seven days is a lot of unnecessary confusion,” she said. “That is all because the Supreme Court undid 50 years of precedent with the overruling of Roe v. Wade.”

The Supreme Court said Friday it will keep in place federal rules for the drug’s use while it more fully considers the issues raised in recent court challenges.
