On April 1, Arizona’s Medicaid program, AHCCCS, began its redetermination process. The idea is to make sure all 2.5 million members still qualify for AHCCCS. So where do things stand today?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, state Medicaid agencies, including AHCCCS, suspended their redetermination process. So even if a person no longer qualified, they were able to maintain their coverage. Until recently.

On April 1, the agency began its renewal process. It’s unclear how many people have been discontinued from the program thus far, but a spokesperson for AHCCCS told KJZZ News in March that some 674,000 Arizonans were at risk of losing their eligibility.

The agency will post an update on its website on May 10.
