Arizona expects a surge of migrants when Title 42 ends. Here's Gov. Hobbs' plan
With the immigration expulsion policy Title 42 coming to an end on Thursday, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs has announced steps the state will take as it expects an increase in border crossings.
The plan includes sending additional National Guard troops to the border as well as working with local non-governmental organizations.
The governor said her administration will also assist in transporting migrants to their final destinations and is prepared to take executive action using state emergency resources.
Though few details have been released on what those actions might be.
During a press conference, Hobbs said the federal government is not prepared for the policy’s end.
"I’ve expressed my frustration with the federal government’s response to something that we knew was coming and we’ve said over and over again that we need to address it. And just the information that we have been getting about that plan has been much less than adequate," She said.
Hobbs added Arizona is in competition with other states for money focused on border communities, but is working to include such funds in the state’s budget.
