The controversial border policy known as Title 42 has ended. The pandemic era protocol was put in place under former President Donald Trump and kept in place under President Joe Biden — until May 11.

It has allowed border officials to quickly and easily remove migrants from the country — without being able to seek asylum, which most of them are attempting to do.

Without it in place, border communities and immigration authorities have been preparing for a potential surge in people at the border asking for asylum in the United States.

Nearly 3 million people have been turned away under Title 42 since it was put in place three years ago.

The Show spoke with Santa Cruz County Sheriff David Hathaway, who joined from Nogales, to speak more on the ending of Title 42.
