Graduation season is upon us — from preschool to Ph.Ds, lots of people are moving to the next chapter of their lives. In honor of that, The Show is turning the mic over to some of the most interesting grads in the Valley.

Audrey Treon, a senior at Arcadia High School, is set to move just a few miles away from home to study fashion design at Arizona State University.

I first got into fashion during quarantine, and I was so bored like everybody else was and it was one of the few things that kept me sane and I had something to look forward to after I put together outfits for when I was out in the real world. And then it just grew into this passion that I have.

I’m a dancer. I love music, I love movies, I love reading, I kind of love all forms of art; learning about it, creating it. I would describe my style as ever-changing, I mean, one day I’ll be wearing an all black outfit, and the next day I’m wearing a pink skirt and a top. And I think that’s so much of the fun of fashion, is getting to put on a new costume every day of yourself and just deciding if you want to be a new person.

I’m wearing — it’s actually my sister’s dress that I stole from her closet — but it’s this blue turquoise green kind of sun dress with this fichus print all over it, and just some black sandals. I really like this outfit because it feels very tropical and summery but also a little bit dressed up with the gold jewelry.

My closet is like 98% thrifted, either from more curated vintage stores or Goodwill or Depop. I think there’s more uniqueness and adventure in thrifting because you never know what you’re gonna find, and I love it because it’s more ethical and sustainable for the planet.

What I’m looking forward to most about going to college is meeting new people who have like minded interests and experiencing a new place, a new area of town that I haven’t grown up in and learning from people and getting their wisdom passed down onto me and trying new things. One of my goals is to design a collection, and I would love to dabble in fashion journalism. I love reading fashion journalism; I learn so much through it. I would love to work with other designers, especially in the Valley area, I think it’s such an up-and-coming area for designers.

I think I’m most nervous about going into a new field where everybody has the same interest as you, because in my high school I’m one of the few people that’s into fashion, so I kind of feel like, OK, I’m really good at this, but going into a field where everyone has the same interest, and they’re so passionate about it, I’m scared that, like — I don’t want to get competitive with it because I just want to be around these people. I don’t want to turn it into some competition.
