U.S. Senate confirms Leonardo as new U.S. Attorney for Arizona
The U.S. Senate has confirmed the new U.S. Attorney for Arizona. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie has more.
MARK BRODIE: In March, President Obama nominated John Leonardo to the post, and the Senate confirmed him Friday. Leonardo had served as a Pima County Superior Court judge since 1993. Before that, he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for Arizona. In a statement, Arizona Senators Jon Kyl and John McCain say they’re pleased Leonardo has been confirmed, and that his “decade of experience on the bench and previous work in the U.S. Attorney’s office will be strong assets.” Leonardo will replace Acting U.S. Attorney for Arizona Ann Birmingham Scheel. She took over for Dennis Burke, who resigned last year over his role in the botched federal gun smuggling operation known as Fast and Furious.
