Students in the Yuma Union High School District are going to have access to some of the fastest Internet in the state.

The district recently announced they will be partnering with WAN-Rack Technology Company to install 22 miles of 10 gigabyte fiber optic cable in Yuma. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, only 40 percent of school districts have access to fiber optic connections.

Matt Buckley with the Yuma School district said this will eliminate road blocks to learning.

“Access to the Internet should be dependable, reliable and instant. If kids have that instantability to go out and find the resources they need to access the information that they need, it just makes things move a lot quicker,“ he said.

The high speed fiber will service 20,000 students in 25 schools starting January.
