Arpaio critics take opportunity to register voters

As the trial of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Joe Arpaio went on in federal court yesterday, dozens of young people launched a voter registration drive targeting Latino voters. They say come November, they want Arpaio out of office.

JENIFER BRIONES: So I want someone who will treat us as equals, because that is what we are, I want someone, who will listen to us as people, and who will take action against the real criminals in this state.

That was 15-year old Jenifer Briones. She's too young to vote, but registered others as a volunteer with the Campaign for Arizona's Future. The registration drive yielded 480 new voters in an afternoon. The group says it has registered almost 12,000 new voters so far.
