1st District field narrowing before primary

August 06, 2012

The primary election is still weeks away, but the field of candidates in Arizona's 1st Congressional District race is already narrowing. KJZZ’s Al Macias reports.

Doug Wade announced on his website Monday that he is withdrawing from the Republican primary because of a lack of funding. He asks his supporters to back fellow Republican Gaither Martin.

The Secretary of State's office says Wade has not officially withdrawn.

Jonathan Paton and Patrick Gatti also are seeking the GOP nomination. Wenona Benally Baldenegro and former Representative Ann Kirkpatrick are candidates on the Democratic side.

There's no incumbent in the race. First-term Congressman Paul Gosar is seeking office in another district, after Arizona’s congressional districts were re-drawn after the 2010 Census.
