Fishy political campaign signs spring up

September 12, 2012

It's been impossible to avoid campaign signs in the Valley. Most are by the numbers with the candidate's name and keywords, but a few signs in Phoenix and Scottsdale are standing out. They feature a female Japanese cartoon character and phrases like "Mitt bit my sushi" and "Obama cares about our sushi."

The restaurant is Stingray Sushi, and as Jason Rose, President of Rose Moser Allyn PR, explains, the ads and the Political Action Committee formed by the company are an outgrowth of the Citizens United court decision.

Michael Dunn, President and CEO of Dunn Associates, pointed out there are rules and regulations governing PACs that don't cover marketing campaigns.
