Travelers headed up to Payson through the Tonto National Forest may see and smell smoke this week. Tonto Forest fire specialists will be staging prescribed fire treatments in areas around Payson starting Monday.

Two prescribed burns covering nearly 1,700 acres are being conducted. One burn will be about 11 miles east of Payson, the other approximately 25 miles east of the city. Both are about 6 miles south of State Highway 260. 

Burn activities will continue through Friday.
