Authorities: No Known Threat To College Championship Game In Glendale
There is currently no specific threat to the College Football National Championship game that will be played next month at University of Phoenix Stadium, according to law enforcement officials.
The announcement comes after suicide bombers blew themselves up in November outside a Paris soccer match. Officials later said at least one of them had a ticket to the game between France and Germany.
Representatives of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies gathered in Glendale on Thursday to announce coordinated regional efforts to ensure safety for people attending events in downtown Phoenix and the game.
“Because we are a federal agency, we have access to the intelligence that comes in from across the country and throughout the world,” said Douglas Price, FBI special agent in charge of the Phoenix Division. “So we are constantly monitoring that intelligence and looking at the different pieces of information that come in and how they might pertain to events here in Arizona.”
Price asked the public to be vigilant and said people should immediately notify authorities if they notice something suspicious.
“If you see something, say something,” Price said.
