Phoenix City Council To Discuss Limiting Drone Use

Serving beer at Starbucks, limiting drones at certain venues and creating new fees for one neighborhood. Those are topics scheduled for this afternoon’s Phoenix City Council meeting.

Council members are scheduled to vote on an ordinance designed to promote commerce while protecting privacy when it comes to drones. The proposal would ban drones near jails, schools and sports facilities with more than 500 people. It would allow drones for news gathering, aerial mapping and businesses where images are standard like real estate and weddings.

The council will also discuss whether the downtown Phoenix arts district Roosevelt Row should be designated a business district. That would involve making property owners pay new fees to enhance the area.

And, city leaders are being asked to approve liquor license applications from Starbucks. The coffee giant wants to serve beer and wine at four locations across the Valley.
