Authorities say that woman accused of throwing a shoe at Hillary Clinton Thursday during a Las Vegas speech is from Phoenix. The woman has been identified, but authorities do not know what prompted the shoe throwing.

36-year-old Alison Michelle Ernst was taken into custody Thursday afternoon. She told authorities she threw a shoe at Clinton. She didn't say why.

Clinton wasn't struck by the shoe. She joked about the incident and continued her talk to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.

The suspect was freed by Las Vegas police after being questioned by Secret Service agents. She has been charged with disorderly conduct.

Clinton is not the first American politician to face a shoe thrower. In December 2008, an Iraqi reporter threw a shoe at President George W. Bush during a news conference in Bagdad. He was not struck either.
