When President Obama makes his historic visit to Cuba next week, he’ll have an Arizona U.S. Senator by his side.

Jeff Flake confirmed he will join the congressional delegation accompanying Obama when he becomes the first president to visit the island nation since 1928.

Last week on the Senate floor, the Republican Flake praised Obama’s policies to open up Cuba-- “We’ve resumed diplomatic relations. We’ve expanded travel opportunities. Lifting caps on financial assistance on financial assistance within families and we’ve eased trade restrictions. I congratulate the administration for spearheading these changes.”

Flake has also applauded the Treasury Department’s decision this week to eliminate regulatory barriers which would enable more Americans to travel to Cuba. He has co-sponsored legislation to make it easier to do so.

When he accompanies the President next week, it will mark Flake’s 12th trip to the island.
