Former President Bill Clinton was in Phoenix on Sunday talking to voters before this week’s presidential preference election. The rally to support his wife’s candidacy drew about 1,000 people to the Central High School gymnasium.

The event was opened by several state and local leaders. Introducing Clinton though was former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark.

Much of their time at the podium was spent discussing gun violence and a push for stricter gun laws, a topic Clinton also addressed.

"But it is not too much to ask people who value their gun rights, that they show a little flexibility to save the lives of all these kids that are being killed by people who never should have had the guns in the first place," he said.

The former president also touched on topics like Hillary Clinton’s plans for immigration reform and making higher education more affordable.

Bill Clinton won in Arizona in the 1996 Presidential election. It was the last time the state’s electoral votes went to a democrat.
