Veteran Stories: Love, war and mixed martial arts

November 29, 2012

This week on Morning Edition we're hearing voices of Arizona's veterans from KJZZ's Public Insight Network. And today’s story is about Kyle Dubay from Tempe, a former Army combat medic who served three tours in Iraq.

It’s a story about love, war and mixed martial arts.

Dubay was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder -- PTSD -- after his second deployment. Back home, he's found some measure of release in the mixed martial arts. That’s a sport that’s like a cross between kickboxing and wrestling.

He and other veterans train regularly at the Spartan Fighting Academy in Mesa. And that’s where he found Amanda Sonday, who has found herself fighting PTSD alongside Kyle.
