Supporters of immigration reform talk a lot about getting undocumented immigrants out of the shadows. Award-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas did that on his own in The New York Times magazine when he
wrote that his mother had sent him from the Philippines to live in the U.S. with his grandparents, who were naturalized U.S. citizens. But Vargas himself didn’t have the proper papers, which he didn’t learn until he turned 16 and tried to get a driver’s license. Vargas tells his story—and shares others’ views on reform—in the film Documented: A Film by an Undocumented American. The film will be playing for one week at the Valley Art Theatre in Tempe.
