Landmark lodge closes

January 07, 2013

After more than six decades, the Greer Lodge Resort and Cabins in eastern Arizona has gone out of business.

The lodge's web page says that it's now closed and directed anyone with reservations to download a refund request form. A May 2011 fire destroyed the main lodge and a restaurant at the resort, located about 220 miles northeast of Phoenix. Federal investigators said the fire was arson-caused and damage was estimated at more than $2 million. The resort was originally built in 1948. It was in the midst of an extensive refurbishing project at the time of the fire. The closure of the lodge and its related business will cost more than one hundred people their jobs.
