The Valley will soon say its final goodbyes to a Phoenix police officer gunned down in the line of duty, and drivers in the north part of the Valley should expect traffic restrictions and road closures on Thursday that could last hours.

Phoenix police have identified 19-year-old Israel Santos-Banos as the man who fatally shot Officer David Glasser last week when Glasser and other officers responded to a burglary call in Laveen.

The visitation is Wednesday night in Glendale, and the funeral will be Thursday morning at Christ's Church of the Valley at 7007 W. Happy Valley Road in Peoria. Glasser’s body will then be taken to Phoenix Memorial Park and Cemetery near Beardsley Road and Central Avenue in north Phoenix.

The procession from the church will head south on 67th Avenue, east on the Loop 101 to 7th Street and west on the frontage road to Central Avenue.

Drivers can stop along the route to pay their respects, but police have asked them to be mindful of other traffic. Those who want to avoid restrictions should take a different route.

Glasser worked at the Maryvale precinct, was a 12-year veteran of the force and a Valley native.
