In a seven-page letter sent to Attorney General Mark Brnovich, lawyers representing Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan contend software modifications made by IBM created voting list errors and caused the 200,000 pamphlets to be sent out too late for early voting.

And that when the problem was discovered, they took prompt action, mailing them out to affected voters in plenty of time for the May 17 election.

The secretary of state’s office said it has directed IBM to fix the programming error and pledges to work with counties to update its statewide voter registration system in time for next year’s elections.

The tech giant said earlier this week that it was not responsible for the snafu, and that their contract with the state wasn’t renewed when it expired at the end of February.

Brnovich has also blamed the problems squarely on the Secretary of State’s office and is conducting an investigation.
