CVS says it chose Phoenix for its new finance center due to the skilled workforce and proximity to other company operations.

Hundreds of jobs are coming to the Valley thanks to big pharmacy chain CVS. CVS Health is consolidating four patient financial service centers in Phoenix into a single new finance center near 44th and Washington streets.

CVS spokesman Gary Serby told KJZZ that Phoenix is an ideal location because of the area’s skilled workforce and its proximity to other company operations.

“The consolidation, which will take place over the coming months, will result in the creation of more than 300 jobs at the company’s Phoenix-based center, in areas such as billing, collections and cash applications,” he said in an email.

Phoenix Economic Development Director Christine Mackay said CVS will move into nearly 140,000 square-feet in a building located in the Gateway Market, which is one of 13 employment corridors in the city.

“The city did not invest any cash in this project at all,” she said. ”For us it was the time of city staff to get them through the process very quickly so they could open in the timeframe that they identified."

CVS plans to open its finance center late this summer.

According to the company’s website, CVS has 225 pharmacies and clinics in Arizona and employs more than 243,000 people in 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
