Looking At The Light Rail's Role In Economic Development

Since the Valley's light rail line became established, supporters have passionately opined that transit-oriented development would have a positive impact on the area's economy. Parts of Phoenix and Mesa have seen those results. Now as of last weekend a development called The Newton is taking advantage at Third Avenue and Camelback.

We spoke to Lorenzo Perez, co-owner of Phoenix-based Venue Projects, which developed The Newton.

We also heard from Larry Ortega, executive vice president with Collier's International. He was initially skeptical about transit-oriented development but says his opinion is changing.
