Arizona Getting Cut Of $30 Million CDC Grant To Prevent Violence, Injuries
Arizona will be getting $1.25 million over the next five years from the Centers For Disease Control. It’s part of a nationwide $30 million grant addressing violence and injury prevention.
Mary Ellen Cunningham with the Arizona Department of Health Services says there are four critical areas the grant will be targeting. One is raising awareness about sudden unexplained infant deaths. She say in 2014 there were "82 deaths of babies under one year old were the result of unexplained infant deaths. And of those, 41 were while sleeping in bed with someone else. And 21 die sleeping on their sides of their tummies.”
Cunningham says other areas addressed will include domestic violence, traumatic brain injuries, and seat belt safety, especially among adolescents.
