House seeks to answer questions on Brewer's Medicaid expansion plan

Governor Jan Brewer's plan to expand Medicaid goes under the microscope this week as a house committee looks into the details. House Appropriations Committee chairman John Kavanagh says the informational meeting, set for Wednesday, will settle some of the remaining questions. As for Kavanagh, a Fountain Hills Republican, he says nothing can sway his opposition to the governor's plan.

“I don’t see how spending more money, I don’t see how adding 400,000 people onto an already swollen, indigent healthcare system of 1.2 million people, how that saves you money,” Kavanagh said.

But Brewer says her plan provides cost-effective care to Arizonans most in need while both protecting hospitals and reducing strain on the State budget. She argues the Medicaid restoration will not sacrifice state dollars.
