Arizona is home to thousands of nonprofits. And whether it’s a well-known museum or a newly formed group, they share a common need: financial support.

Creating successful relationships between Valley nonprofits and businesses was the focus of an event held in Scottsdale last Friday. During the 9th Annual Nonprofit Business Summit, hosted by the Phoenix Business Journal, Andrea Moreno with the Salt River Project told nonprofit leaders that her company doesn’t like it when groups simply ask for help.

“We want to be a partner with your nonprofit,” she said. “We want to see what things we can work with you beyond the dollars that we give the organization or the employees that we give the organization.”

Consultant Tyler Butler said new ideas should be sustainable, “I think that a lot of companies are a little weary of opportunities that may seem like a little bit one off. They want something that they can grow and build and have as a signature program or relationship.”

The Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits says there are more than 20,000 nonprofits in the state representing more than 150,000 employees and 500,000 volunteers.
