FAA to close towers at four Arizona airports

March 22, 2013

Four Arizona airports are on the FAA’s list for tower closures, due to the sequester cuts.

Phoenix Goodyear, Glendale Muni, Laughlin-Bullhead International and Ryan Field in Tucson all made the list – overall, 149 towers nationwide will close, starting on April 7.

The FAA says it decided to keep 24 federal contract towers open that had been also scheduled to close. The sequestration cuts require the agency to cut more than $600 million.

The closures will be spaced out over a four-week period, and also include two towers each in New Mexico and Utah and 11 in California.
