Flooding in Tucson on Aug. 9, 2016.

Last week, monsoon storms dumped more than 2 inches of rain on some parts of Tucson in just one day. Sure, it's usually rainy during monsoon season, but what about the rest of the year? How much rain does Tucson get annually?

More than 115 years of National Weather Service data shows that Tucson gets about 11.3 inches of rain annually — about 3.75 inches more than Phoenix. We've compiled all that data into one chart, and here are a few other things we learned:

  • The most rain ever recorded in Tucson in one year was in 1905.

  • Tucson has never recorded fewer than 5 inches in a single year.

  • More than 1,320 inches of rain have been recorded in Tucson since 1895.
