Multinational Company Setting Up Shop In Tempe, Plans To Hire Hundreds

City and state leaders join Willis Towers Watson company officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new Tempe center.

Willis Towers Watson opened its technology hub and service center on Tuesday.The 92,000 square foot center will house customer service representatives handling insurance accounts, benefit advisors and software engineers.

Willis Towers Watson helps companies manage risks and health benefits. It does business in more than 100 countries.

The center near Priest Drive and Washington Road could eventually house up to 800 employees. The company’s managing director, Gene Wickes, praised the Valley’s talent pool, education and bilingual capabilities.

A city spokeswoman said Tempe provided no financial incentives to Willis Towers Watson, however the company can apply for state tax credits for new, full-time jobs that pay at least the county’s median wage which is $35,256 a year.
