A judge has ordered a recount in the Republican primary race for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District. Election officials obtained a court order Tuesday morning after Maricopa County and the Arizona Secretary of State certified the results on Monday.

State Senate President Andy Biggs leads former Go Daddy executive Christine Jones by 16 votes in the race to represent the East Valley district.

Elizabeth Bartholomew with the Maricopa County Recorder’s office said the process should be complete by the end of the week.

"We’re probably thinking the counting is going to take two to three days, but we do need to do a hand count at the end of tabulating all the ballots,” Bartholomew said.

Poll workers will check 5 percent of the ballots by hand and compare the results with the totals from the voting machines.

The recorder’s office estimates the recount will cost between $5,000 and $9,000 with the state picking up the tab.
