Phoenix Suns hire a new General Manager

May 07, 2013

Coming off of the second-worst season in team history, the Phoenix Suns have hired a new General Manager.

Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby says 33-year-old Ryan McDonough will be the team’s General Manager. McDonough has spent the past three seasons as the assistant General Manager of the Boston Celtics. McDonough has worked for the Celtics since 2003.

The Suns had the second-worst record in franchise history in the NBA regular season that ended last month. That led to the dismissal of former General Manager Lance Blanks, who had been in the position for three seasons—all of which ended with the Suns on the outside looking in when the NBA’s postseason started.

McDonough will decide whom the Suns will choose with their two first round picks in next month’s NBA draft. He’ll also have significant input on who will be the team’s next head coach.
