Maricopa County Recorder Hellen Purcell has had a challenging few months after voters were forced to stand in line for hours to cast their ballot in the March Presidential Preference Election. But lessons were learned.

Purcell admitted to lawmakers last spring she had quote “made a giant mistake” when the county set up only 60 polling locations, compared to 200 in 2012.

Now, ahead of the November General Election, spokeswoman Elizabeth Bartholomew said Purcell is expecting a successful day.

"And you know with every election you are going to make changes. And we have looked at the past elections this year, and we have tried ot make a change from every single election to make sure the next election as successful as it could possibly be," Bartholomew said.

Bartholomew said 1.4 million early ballots have been mailed. Starting Wednesday, voters in Maricopa County can cast their ballot for the next president of the United States and other offices. 

"We have 25 early voting sites," said Bartholomew. "I know only 16 are open today, the rest will be open next week … now these early voting sites you can go to any of them and vote."

She said come Election Day, voters will have to cast their vote at their assigned polling location in order for it to count. The early polling sites will stay open until Nov. 4.
