Supporters of Israel showed up for a rally in downtown Phoenix Thursday afternoon. Many of those attending said Israel is the target of terrorists and has to defend itself.

Jeanette Winer said during her youth she lived briefly on a kibbutz in Israel.

"Jews everywhere need to band together," Winer said. "I would like leaders of churches, leaders of civic groups, leaders of countries to all stand up, and denounce hate speech."

About 50 people attended Thursday’s rally sponsored by members of the Phoenix Jewish community.
