Sheriff?s office to loan life jackets to boaters, funded by Native Air

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is getting a donation this week, in recognition of National Safe Boating Week. The life jackets are being contributed by Native Air, an Air Ambulance company. Sheriff's Office spokesman Chris Hegstrom says life jackets are major life savers.

“Statistics show that 70-percent of boaters involved in a boating accident drown, 80-percent of those victims weren’t wearing personal flotation devices,” Hegstrom said.

The life jacket loaner program provides money to the sheriff's office so it can loan life jackets to boaters caught without them.
