The term “Project Blue Book” is the phrase from the 1950s and '60s used by the government to describe unidentified flying objects. But, a new space mission called “Project Blue” is focused on identifying life on other planets.

A team of engineers and scientists from across the United States, including the University of Arizona and Arizona State University, is looking for life on other planets.

The team is looking for Earth-like conditions, which means searching for a pale blue dot to show evidence of life using a powerful, and expensive, space telescope.

The scientists have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $1 million to pay for the it.

The telescope is being used as part of Project Blue, which will photograph planets around the Alpha Centauri star system, where two of the stars closest to our own
solar system are located.

Total costs are projected to be between $20-25 million for the project.
