Arizona ranchers who lost cattle to the endangered Mexican grey wolf now have a way to be compensated.

Conservation efforts are helping to re-establish the Mexican wolf population in Arizona and New Mexico, but the program has resulted in the loss of some commercial cattle.

The Arizona Livestock Loss Board has approved an interim policy. It allows ranchers to receive compensation for cattle taken by the wolves.

Under the policy, a commercial rancher can apply for reimbursement for damages up to $2,500.

Incidents taking place after September 2015 are eligible. All claims of damages must first be investigated by a field representative.
