You Can Touch, But Not Buy At Arizona Auto Show

More than 500 cars, trucks and SUVs are on display at the Phoenix Convention Center this holiday weekend, and you can’t buy a single one — at least not there. The Arizona International Auto Show is considered a “no sales zone."
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the average vehicle on the road is more than 11 years old.
“Many people who come into the marketplace, they haven’t had the opportunity to study what’s in the market today,” said Knox Ramsey, president of the Valley Auto Dealers Association.
He said the show is a chance for people to ask questions and test drive cars with no pressure to buy. Crossovers are attracting a lot of attention. Unlike SUVs, crossovers are built on car platforms and they combine features of cars and SUVs.
“A crossover is moving from a passenger car to an SUV, but an SUV that still gives the passenger the enjoyment and benefit of what they would find in a passenger car,” Ramsey said. “I think what most people like is the enjoyment of a lot of cargo space for hauling things around.”
He said in Maricopa County, passenger cars make up about 45 percent of the product while the light-duty trucks category, which includes crossovers, SUVs and pickups, makes up 55 percent.
The Arizona International Auto Show runs through Sunday at the Phoenix Convention Center.
