Phoenix experiencing uncommonly high temperatures

June 07, 2013

Just seven days into June, and Phoenix is already experiencing temperatures 10 degrees above normal. Highs for Friday are expected to jump to 112 degrees, and most of that warm weather will transfer over to the weekend.Dan Leins, Phoenix National Weather Service meteorologist, said high pressure is the reason for the increase.

“It’s not totally uncommon for this time of year, but the temperatures are going to be very warm and dangerously high in some areas,” said Leins.

Leins also included that by the middle of next week, temperatures should drop down to the low 100s, which is the normal for this time of year.

When asked about global warming as another contributing factor, Leins said it is unlikely.

“It’s hard to make ties to that (global warming),” said Leins. “It has been this warm before.”

The record high temperature for Friday is 115 degrees.
