Two days after the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community announced plans to partner with Arizona’s professional soccer club to build a new stadium, the government welcomes a health-care company.

McKesson Specialty Health President Nick Loporcaro said 1,400 employees will move from downtown Scottsdale to tribal land where they will take calls on behalf of drug manufacturers.

“So patient-assistant programs, co-pay programs, you’re on a specific therapy that needs some monitoring — that’s what this group does,” he explained.

For nearly a dozen years, McKesson Corporation employees have reported to work at the Galleria Corporate Center near Scottsdale and Camelback roads. Loporcaro said they’ve outgrown the space and, “we are literally in the basement.”

Some Scottsdale business owners have complained about downtown employees taking up free parking spaces they say they need for their customers.

Loporcaro said the new building will be able to accommodate up to 800 more employees as the company grows. It’s expected to open next October on Pima Road, just off  Loop 101.
