Fall is the start of a new fiscal year for colleges and universities, and if trends continue, this year’s revenue for many schools will be lower than last year.

Scottsdale-based Universal Technical Institute Inc. is a training school for mechanics.

On their fourth quarter earnings call, company CEO Kim McWaters said earnings are down, due in part, to declining enrollment. And for the year ending September 2017, new student enrollment will be down in the low single digits.

Moody’s Investors Service analyzes college and university growth trends. It’s new report said three-quarters of surveyed four-year schools will grow at the rate of inflation for the 2017 school year.

For small and moderate public schools, Moody’s forecasts 1.5 percent growth. That’s below the rate of inflation.
