Border agents deliver baby

June 12, 2013

Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Luis port of entry had to hit another gear this week when a pregnant woman trying to cross into the United States went into labor.

Spokeswoman Teresa Small says an officer with paramedic training was called to help the 20-year-old U.S. citizen deliver her child.

"The officers quickly made contact with paramedics to report to the port which they did and immediately they started assisting with the delivery because she was actually having the baby," Small said.

Small said it's a situation Customs officers deal with a couple times a year at the various Arizona ports of entry.
