Sky Harbor reports more than 120,000 passengers arrive and depart on a typical day.

Want a snack while you wait in the cell-phone lot? Or grab a coffee at the Sky Train station?

Food and beverage trucks could soon be coming to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. The Aviation Department is looking to test drive the concept on its 3,000-acre campus.

Many of Sky Harbor’s 43,000 employees work outside the terminal buildings — in cargo areas, hangars, corporate offices and ground transportation lots — places without direct access to food and beverage service.

The Aviation Department has identified 11 locations where three to 12 trucks could rotate. They include:

  • 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station
  • East Cell Phone Lot
  • West Cell Phone Lot
  • American Airlines Hangar
  • Southwest Airlines Hangar
  • Aviation Corporate Office Building
  • Facilities and Services Building
  • 500 S. 24th St.
  • West Air Cargo
  • South Air Cargo
  • Taxi Hold Lot

Sky Harbor officials would have the flexibility to add or reduce locations based on demand.

If the City Council approves, the Aviation Department would amend existing contracts so food and beverage companies that operate inside the terminals could also run food trucks outside.

City staff would monitor and re-evaluate the program after one year.
