Protestors gathered at Sky Harbor Airport Saturday night to demonstrate against President Trump's executive immigration order

When Kanwl Sdq boarded a plane in Orlando Saturday afternoon, the immigration ban was still in effect. By the time she landed at Sky Harbor in Phoenix, a federal judge had issued a stay against  President Trump’s order, temporarily halting the deportation of travelers with valid visas.

Sdq and other travelers were greeted by a chanting group of supporters as they entered terminal. Sdq said, as a Muslim-American, hearing the protest message was especially moving.

"It felt amazing," she said. "We felt uplifted and everyone supporting each other — it was lovely to see.

Unlike other major U.S. airports, a Sky Harbor spokesperson said there were no travelers detained in Phoenix as of Saturday evening.

Kerry Kenney of Gilbert said she still felt compelled to join the impromptu protest group.

“It was important for me for people to come into Phoenix to see a presence at the airport," Kenney said. "To let them know that they’re welcome, that not everybody agrees with the policies of Donald Trump.”

That includes Reps. Kyrsten Sinema, Raul Grijalva, Ruben Gallego and Sen. Jeff Flake who have all issued statements denouncing the President Trump’s executive order.
