Most Arizonans Live In Area Serviced By Medical Marijuana Dispensary

July 09, 2013

State health officials say about nine of every 10 Arizonans now lives in an area with a medical marijuana dispensary.

The state Department of Health Services says 47 dispensaries have been inspected and approved to operate and that so far 35 of those are open and operating.

According to DHS, an additional 17 inspections are scheduled during the next few weeks.

A map posted by the department on its web site indicates that communities where dispensaries are not operating include Nogales, Yuma, Lake Havasu City, Payson, Holbrook, Globe, Safford and Window Rock.

Cities within 25 miles of an operating dispensary include Phoenix, Tucson, Prescott, Sierra Vista, Kingman, Flagstaff, Casa Grande and Sedona.

The 25-mile distance is significant because only marijuana card holders who live more than 25 miles from a dispensary can grow their own pot supplies.
