Garino: Border Patrol should not add razor-wire to border fence.

July 16, 2013

The mayor of Nogales, Ariz. is criticizing a proposal to increase border security by topping the border fence with razor-wire. Arturo Garino thinks a better idea would be to shift Border Patrol agents from checkpoints in the interior of the state, to the border.  Garino says the path to better border security is not a more daunting physical barrier.

“What’s next? A 30 foot fence? A 40 foot fence? It’s not, you know, relation is what we need to do with Mexico,” Garino said. “I think that’s the most important part of it.”

Garino says if the Border Patrol goes ahead with the proposal to install razor-wire, he and his city will officially protest by passing a resolution and sending it both to Congress and state lawmakers.
