When Alicia Ratan and Meredith Howell met doing improv at The Torch Theater in midtown Phoenix, they said that a lot of the comedy they were seeing was what they called “boy humor.”

As women doing comedy, they weren’t unheard of, but they were definitely in the minority. So, they decided to team up and create a comedy duo that would make feminism funny.

They call it Overtly Sensitive, and their variety show, "Out of the Kitchen," is bringing artists, poets, storytellers and speakers to the stage, highlighting women and people of color.

The newest edition of their show "Out Of The Kitchen: Into the Resistance" is tonight at The Newton at Changing Hands Bookstore, and The Show’s Lauren Gilger sat down with these two comedians recently to talk more about it.

In the end, they say the goal is just to be themselves on stage and to be funny! But, they say that being a women and owning that you’re funny is radical today.

And, they are funny.

But as funny as they are, they have put some serious thought into what they’re doing here and why.
