Well, you know what that music means: it’s officially baseball season in the Valley as the Cactus League spring training gets underway at stadiums Valley-wide.

That’s right. And this week, a group of baseball insiders are gathered here in the Valley for the 24th-annual NINE Spring Training Conference to talk about the most prevalent historic research and cultural implications of the game. And The Show’s Lauren Gilger joins us now with more on this.

She went out to Tempe Diablo Stadium on Wednesday afternoon and sat in the stands with Charlie Vascellaro. He's a freelance writer and baseball historian who covers the Cactus League, and they talked about this conference and some of the biggest issues in the baseball world today.

Vascellaro will be out at Salt River Fields on Saturday and Sunday signing copies of his book “At the Ballpark: A Fan’s Companion,” an illustrated notebook for kids who are baseball fans.
