Huss Brewing wants to serve beer and wine in this patio space at Uptown Plaza in Phoenix.

After months of disagreement and discussions, a zoning adjustment hearing officer has weighed in on a new business near an historic Phoenix neighborhood. And the decision means more beer could soon flow at Central Avenue and Camelback Road.

Huss Brewing owners picked Uptown Plaza to sell their craft beers because it’s become a popular spot in the last few years. Some neighbors welcomed the news, but others opposed the location, especially the patio because it’s just across the alley from homes in the Windsor Square Historic Neighborhood.

Both sides submitted plans to deal with concerns and a hearing officer has approved 25 stipulations.

Among them: No music or TVs will be allowed on the patio, lighting will have to be turned away from the homes, and Huss will add an 8-foot-high wooden fence.

Employees will also not be allowed to dump glasses in dumpsters after 8 p.m. or park on residential streets. The business must close no later than 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

Neighbors have 15 days to appeal the officer’s decision. Huss plans to open its taproom on April 14.
